ASME SA 333 Grade 6 Pipes are supplied with NACE MR 0103 AND NACE MR 0175 certifications with additions of HIC testing at low temperatures.

Charpy Impact testing requirement for ASME B31.3 and API

Sep 30, 2011 · Hello everyone, I have a few questions that I need help with please:all welding procedures are for ASME Section IX 1. When developing weld procedures to weld pipe materials like P1 (A106 grade A, B, C, and API 5L X-41, X-46, and X-56) to the same or any P1 to P1 combination for ASME B31.3 application in an oil and gas production site for flow lines, I do not need Charpy impact testing Low Temperature Carbon Steel Pipe - A333 G6 Steel Pipe Our LTCS pipe features moderate strength with toughness down to 50°F (46°C). ASTM A333 covers nominal wall seamless and welded carbon pipe. ASTM A333 Grade 6 Low Temp Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe is an alloy steel with similar properties as AISI 4032 steel. Standard Specification for LTCS A/SA 333 Grade 1/6 Seamless Pipe NORSOK STANDARDinstead of lowering the test temperature. Impact testing is not required in the qualification of the welding procedures for weldments in Materials/components manufactured in accordance with M-CR-630 rev. 1 may be accepted. Temp. reduction in sub size specimen for Charpy impact test

We have tested an A333 Gr.6 (4" pipe-6.3 mm thickness). Laboratory used a sub size specimen (55*5*10) and tested it at -48c. test temperature of A 333 Gr.6 is -45C (3 degree Celsius cooler temperature) Unfortunately absorbed energy was low and the test was failed. We see a clause in standard (SA-333/SA-333M) which described that:US standard Charpy V-notch impact specimen test Table 6 of ASTM A333 specifies a test temperature reduction of 4°C below the specified test temperature for Grade 6 because the material thickness is nominally 7mm. The impact test specimen width is only 5mm (71% of the material thickness) and Table 6 specifies a temperature reduction of 11°C.
